Uncertain Climate Futures - A New Reality for Structural Design and Integrity Management

International Workshop on Uncertain Climate Futures - A New Reality for Structural Design and Integrity Management

Join us to explore how we can ensure the resilience, safety, and reliability of infrastructure systems amidst uncertain climate futures. This workshop, organized by the Danish Association of Consulting Engineers (FRI) and the Joint Committee on Structural Safety (JCSS), aims to:

  • Raise Awareness: Highlight the impact of climate change on infrastructure planning, design, and management.
  • Align Perspectives: Exchange knowledge on climate change challenges and discuss approaches to address knowledge uncertainties.
  • Join Forces: Achieve consensus on establishing a rationale for dealing with climate changes and set directions for implementation.

Concept and Structure: The 2-day workshop will bring together global professionals, including climate scientists, infrastructure owners, operators, contractors, consultants, and regulators.

  • Day 1: Presentations by climate scientists and stakeholders, followed by discussions at the workshop dinner.
  • Day 2: Insights from experts in structural reliability and risk-informed decision-making, concluding with a consensus on developing decision bases for infrastructure management.

Venue and Logistics: The workshop will be held at Industriens Hus, Copenhagen, centrally located near Tivoli and main transport hubs. A variety of hotels are within walking distance.

Registration: Register and pay the participation fee of DKK 3.000 (includes lunch and dinner) by June 16, 2025. Early registration is encouraged due to limited space.

Background: Climate change poses significant challenges for infrastructure systems. This workshop aims to address these challenges by leveraging our strong tradition and knowledge base in dealing with climate-related uncertainties.

Organization: Supported by a local organizing committee and an international scientific committee, including Michael Havbro Faber (NIRAS), Inger Birgitte Kroon (COWI), and Søren Randrup Thomsen (Ramboll).
